A 44-year-old Hattiesburg man decided not to face Petal police officers on three misdemeanor charges, so he bolted after a traffic stop and led law enforcement on a four-county chase.
David Evans Mumme
David Evans Mumme was jailed on $9,500 bond after charges of felony eluding ($5,000 bond), and three misdemeanors – disorderly conduct, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting arrest (each at $1,500 bond).
Petal Police Lt. Casey Walley said the roadblock was nothing unusual.
“The guy made a traffic stop for just a misdemeanor traffic violation,” he said. “The guy pulled over to a residence. Once the officer got out, the subject took off and sped away from the stop.”
Petal officers and Forrest County deputies started an odyssey from Petal to Jones County, then into Covington County and back into Forrest County before Mumme crashed near Peps Point Road in Forrest County.
Mumme made his initial court appearance Wednesday and is being held in the Forrest County Jail.
