The suspect who was injured during a shootout with Hattiesburg Police officers Sunday afternoon has died, said Lamar County Coroner Cody Creel.
The suspect’s body was sent to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy, Creel added. The shooting, which occurred about 2 p.m. Sunday in the 6000 block of U.S. Hwy. 98 near Turtle Creek Mall and Walmart, is being investigated by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
“The suspect was transported to a local hospital after the incident,” Creel said. “We are waiting to release any information about the suspect until we get the autopsy results from the State Crime Lab.”
Creel said the autopsy is being expedited by the State Crime Lab. No other injuries were reported during the incident. No other details are available at this time.
