The Jones County Sheriff's Department dive team will be conducting rescue and recovery scuba diving training today at Springer Lake on Jordan Drive from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Our team will be joined by the Jones County Emergency Management Agency for this important skills training. Please do not be alarmed if you see a large contingent of emergency vehicles on Jordan Drive . . . we are just training.
The JCSD thanks Darrell Springer, owner of Springer's Auto Salvage, for the use of his lake and property for this critically important training. Our scuba divers train in order to be prepared for surface and underwater rescue missions and also, sadly, for surface and underwater recovery missions.
In addition, there are times when evidence searches are conducted which require scuba divers to search underwater for items. We train in order to be ready for critical missions which can happen at any time.
