(Laurel) - Fifteen Jones County volunteer fire departments responded to assist the Laurel Fire Department Saturday shortly before midnight.  LFD was called to a massive structure fire at 1125 North 5th Avenue just after 11:00 p.m. at Jones Middle School in Laurel. The structure was fully involved on their arrival.  Shortly thereafter, LFD called on the volunteer departments to assist battling the blaze.  
 
The county's volunteers assisted LFD with manpower and helped relay water to fight the massive fire.  Jones VFDs also assisted with a ladder truck and the county's foam trailer. The departments also assisted in coverage for the city while LFD was on the scene.
 
Volunteer fire departments responding were Calhoun, Boggy, Glade, Shady Grove, Southwest Jones, South Jones, Powers, Sandersville, Sharon, Rustin, Union, Hebron, Johnson, Ovett and Soso.  LPD, Jones County Sheriff's Office and Emserv were also on scene.
 
Litter from fireworks was strewn all over and may have been a contributing factor in the fire.  The school sustained major damage.  No injuries were reported.
