A shooting at Southern Hens near Moselle over the weekend left one person injured and others potentially facing charges.
According to information released by Major Jamie Tedford of the Jones County Sheriff’s Department, a female employee at Southern Hens was struck in the back of the head by a stray bullet during a gunfire exchange between her boyfriend, Eddie McGee, and Patrick Hill, who was sitting in the parking lot at Southern Hens on Friday evening. Deputies were called to the scene just after 6:30 p.m. McGee had come by to pick the woman up; Hill worked at the plant, as did the girlfriend of McGee.
From initial evidence that has been gathered, Hill apparently fired the shot that hit the victim. He did not leave the scene of the incident and gave his story to law enforcement authorities. He told officials that McGee accused him of being in the same car with his girlfriend when McGee drove in to pick her up during a shift change. According to Hill’s testimony, the boyfriend starting shooting at him first, so he began firing back. One of the rounds he fired struck the woman. The two handguns involved were a 9-mm and a .45-caliber, noted Tedford.
Hill, after his interview, was released pending grand jury. The most likely charge, if any, at this point of the investigation would be aggravated assault. Authorities have not yet spoken with the other shooter.
The victim was transported to South Central Regional Medical Center, but the severity of her condition is not officially confirmed at this time. The shooting remains under investigation, stated Tedford.
