Jimmy Pitts fire
Firefighters with M & M, Glade and Powers volunteer fire departments had an early morning on Friday when a structure fire involving a single family brick home was reported shortly after 1:00 a.m. at 70 Shamrock Drive in the Dixie Hills subdivision.

Homeowners Adryna Vanorden and Jimmy Pitts were awakened by a "loud crash" and found their house filled with smoke and flames near the rear of the home.  The homeowners were barely able to escape the home with their 10- and 12-year-old sons and the clothes they were wearing.  The family cat is missing and feared deceased in the blaze.

Firefighters initially responding found a fully involved structure fire with the integrity of the home already impaired.  The fire had begun spreading throughout the yard, damaging the fence at the property line and also to the trees near the road.  The roof collapsed quickly.

The home sustained heavy damage in the incident.  No other injuries were reported.  Jones County Sheriff's Office and Dixie Electric Power Association also responded to the scene.
