A structure fire in the Hebron community left a home devastated at 291 Royce Pool Road. Mr. Ellis Ray Crosby resided in the home for many years and was sleeping on the couch in the living room when he awoke to heavy smoke in the home shortly after 8:00 p.m. this evening. Mr. Crosby was able to escape the home without injury.

Upon arrival of the first responding fire personnel, the single story Jim Walter home was fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters immediately began a defensive attack. Hebron, Soso, Calhoun and Pleasant Ridge volunteer firefighters responded to the scene. Jones County Sheriff's Office also responded. No injuries were reported.

A candle burning in a back bedroom in the house is believed to be a contributing cause of the structure fire. The Jones County Fire Council would take this time to urge citizens to remember to stay alert when burning candles inside and never leave them unattended.
