The Jones County Volunteer Fire Service has nineteen newly certified volunteer firefighters. These community volunteers started the Mississippi Volunteer Firefighter 1 class under the leadership of Instructor James Garick in January of 2020.
The training was almost fully completed when the COVID-19 pandemic began wreaking havoc in March which shut down the Mississippi State Fire Academy in Pearl, MS.
These dedicated students put in well over 120 hours into their training in the classroom setting and firefighter skills training setting most of which took place at nights and on weekends.
The students were able to test their skills at the Mississippi State Fire Academy after six months of waiting and at three different times due to class sizes and taking Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) requirements into consideration.
There is no doubt that these newly certified Jones County volunteer firefighters will be an asset to not only Jones County, but also to the State of Mississippi. Congratulations to these nineteen newly certified Mississippi Volunteer Firefighters.
