Murder suspect Zachary Barnes was being held at the Covington County Jail after he was bonded at $1 million in the shooting death of a 20-year-old man Tuesday in the northeast part of the county.

The deputies arrived when they were called after a shooting incident. Barnes was still on scene outside the residence, and deputies were able to take him into custody.

The victim was located in a bedroom at the residence, and EMS personnel who arrived on scene determined that the victim was deceased.

Barnes was transported from the scene and later that morning officially charged with murder.

Justice Court Judge Bobby Mooney set Barnes’ bond at $1 million.
