After two supervisors didn’t return to run again in Lamar County, new faces will be seen when the new board takes office in January. There will also be a new chancery clerk.
Lamar County Chancery Clerk candidate Jamie Aultman
Current District 4 Supervisor Phillip Carlisle stepped down to run for the Chancery Clerk’s seat with the retirement of Wayne Smith. However, Carlisle was unsuccessful in his quest as Jamie Aultman won the runoff 6,038, or 56.28 percent, to Carlisle’s 4,673, or 43.56 percent.
In the Lamar County District 4 Supervisor’s race, the seat vacated by Carlisle, Mitch Brent outdistanced Tony E. Shifalo Jr. to win. Brent had 2,028, or 63.1 percent, to Shifalo’s 1,184 votes, or 36.84 percent.
In the District 3 Supervisor’s race, Terry Bass won by capturing 1,408 votes or 63.57 percent. Larry Bracey collected 807 votes or 36.43 percent. Current District 3 Supervisor Joe Bounds did not run for re-election.
In the other Lamar County Republican runoffs, Marc A. Broome outdistanced Hunter Andrews 5,490-4,588 (54.33-45.41 percent) for County Surveyor. And Scooter Coker captured the District 3 Constable runoff over Lyn Thompson with a vote of 2,507-1,493 (or 62.64-37.31 percent).
In nearby Covington County, incumbent District 5 Supervisor Arthur Keys held on to his seat by slipping past Donnie R. Barnes by 46 points in the Democratic runoff. Keys collected 436 votes or 52.72 percent, to Barnes’ 390 votes, or 47.16 percent.
