Jasper County Sheriff's Department planning 'seized' property auction

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department will be holding a seized property auction in mid-November where numerous items confiscated during past drug arrests will be auctioned to the public.

According to Jasper County Sheriff Randy Johnson, the property headed to the auction block, including vehicles, work equipment, and other items, has been confiscated during drug arrests throughout the years he has been in office as Sheriff. The property, awarded by the Courts to the Sheriff’s Department, is directly or indirectly related to drugs, weapons, or money stemming from those activities.

Funds generated from the auction will assist in purchasing equipment that will be used by the Jasper County Sheriff's Department. Over 140 items will be auctioned.

“What we make at the auction will go into a drug seizure fund. We can use those funds to purchase equipment at no cost to the county,” Johnson explained.

The auction will be held at the “Goat Barn” located at 155 CR 1521 in Bay Springs (across Highway 15 from the JR Sims Livestock Facility), beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2020. Johnson said the auction will continue until all of the items are gone.

“I will try to have someone at the ‘Goat Barn’ a couple days prior to the auction so people can view the items,” he mentioned.

Auction will include equipment like weed eaters, chainsaws, hedge trimmers, skillsaws, chopsaws, a drill press, a table saw, welding machines, air compressor/air impact, and other assorted tools. Non-equipment lots will include items like speakers, televisions, compound bows, cameras, amplifiers, computers, and tactical vests. Vehicles included in the auction will be a 1985 red Nissan truck, a 1990 red Toyota truck, a 1998 white Mercury Grand Marquis, a 2001 grey Cadillac, and a 2003 white Ford Explorer.
