Police Line Don't Cross

A Jones County woman is dead, and her accused murderer is in the custody of the Jones County Sheriff’s Department.

According to Chief Deputy Mitch Sumrall, the Jones County Sheriff’s Department, along with medical First Responders from the Powers Fire Department, were dispatched to a residence on Powers Drive in the Powers Community early Thursday morning to the report of a possible suicide attempt.

When Jones County Deputy Sgt. Brennon Chancellor arrived on the scene, a naked male, later identified as Adam Mills, 28, charged him, and Chancellor deployed a non-lethal weapon to detain him.

“After they detained him, they did a search of the residence, and that’s when they discovered the victim,” said Sumrall.

The victim was later identified as 28-year old Ashley Pearson. Investigators are still working to uncover details about the incident, including a motive.

“We are at the very beginning of this investigation,” noted Sumrall.
