Teen charged in shooting

Germerio Holloway

A local teen turned himself over to authorities Monday after allegedly shooting his cousin during an altercation Saturday.

According to Jasper County Sheriff’s Department Detective Daniel Gilmore, the altercation between Germerio Holloway, 17, and the shooting victim took place at a residence on County Road 16 in Louin at approximately 4 p.m. After separating from the altercation, Holloway retrieved a gun from his vehicle, fired two shots, and one shot struck the victim in the leg.

“From what we understand, the fight separated, and Mr. Holloway went to his vehicle, got a firearm, came back and fired two shots. One of the shots struck the victim in the leg just above his knee and came out in his calf muscle. He (victim) was taken to South Central Regional Medical Center, and that’s who notified the Sheriff’s Department,” he explained. “He was admitted to South Central for observation, and the last time I talked to his family Sunday, he was still in the hospital.”

Detective Gilmore went on to say Youth Court Judge Lillous Ann Shoemaker was contacted due to the fact that the shooter is a juvenile. A warrant was issued for Holloway’s arrest, and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department attempted unsuccessfully to locate him over the weekend.

“He was actually brought to the Sheriff’s Department Monday, and he turned himself in,” Gilmore said.

Holloway was charged with aggravated assault. He made a bond appearance before Justice Court Judge Marvin Jones where a $25,000 bond was set. Holloway has been released from the Jasper County Jail on that bond.
