Bay Springs city officials have agreed on the hiring of a new police chief.
The Board of Aldermen and Mayor J.E. Smith discussed the issue at length Tuesday evening in executive session during a regular scheduled board meeting.
Following the closed door session, it was verified former Mississippi Highway Patrol Officer Richard Mays, Jr. had been approved for the position.
Mays replaces former Chief Tony Wedgeworth who retired in late March.
