On Sunday, August 25 at approximately 11:00 p.m., the Laurel Police Department received a report about a social media threat that a male high school student allegedly made to shoot another student at Laurel High School.
LPD Juvenile Investigator Lt. Kevin Jackson worked with LHS resource officers and the LPD Patrol Division to identify and locate the suspect. At approximately 2:00 this morning, August 26, the suspect was arrested and placed in the Jones County Juvenile Detention Center, according to authorities. There is no current threat to any students at LHS.
The LPD and the Laurel School District take these types of threats very seriously and caution parents to educate their children as to the consequences of the threats.
