The Jones County Sheriff's Department is reporting that several people in the county have received seeds in the mail from China.
The Sheriff's Department is asking that if you receive a package of unsolicited seeds from China, or any foreign country, immediately contact the Mississippi Department of Agriculture Bureau of Plant Industry by phoning (662) 325-3390. By all means do not plant these seeds.
According to recent reports from national news sources across the country the mysterious seeds have shown up in all 50 states, and are feared to be invasive plant species that could wreck havoc on our food and agriculture system.
According to one report, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services [APHIS] has been working alongside state and federal agencies including the Department of Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection to figure out what the seeds are and why they were sent.
