Another round of possible severe weather is forecast for early Thursday morning for Jones County and surrounding areas. Jones County EMA Executive Director Paul Sheffield reported that the Pine Belt area is a Slight to Moderate Risk for severe weather, and the timing for the threat is expected to begin around 4 a.m. Thursday morning and continue through noon. Damaging winds up to 70 mph, large hail, and tornadoes are possible. Along with the severe weather is a Limited risk of flash flooding with one to three inches of rain possible within a few hours. Some storms may produce more substantial amounts.

“Strong storms could occur starting tonight and lasting through tomorrow morning with sustained winds of 20 to 25 miles per hour and wind gusts of 30 to 40 miles per hour at times are possible during this time frame,” reported Sheffield.
