The number of capital murder arrests in the shooting death of a Hattiesburg grocer doubled to four on Thursday, Aug. 1, when two more Jackson men were arrested in the Capital City.

The Hattiesburg Police, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force and Jackson Police, arrested Stephon “Doonk” Hart, 25, about 6:30 a.m. during a traffic stop at I-20 Frontage Road and South Gallatin Street in Jackson.

Then about 11 a.m., Christopher “Fat Boy” Tyce, 26, was arrested at The Village Apartments in the 300 block of Raymond Road in Jackson. Both men were transported to the Hattiesburg Police Department for questioning.

Stephon Hart, 25, aka “Doonk”

Hart and Tyce each have been charged with capital murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault, and criminal street gang activity. They were transported and booked into the Forrest County Jail, where awaited their initial appearance.

Jaytran “Tug” Tuggle, 20, of Jackson who was arrested on July 26, has had the charge of armed robbery added during the investigation. Tuggle and Jaquarious “Quay” Randle, 20, were transported back to the Hattiesburg Police Department and each charged with capital murder, criminal street gang activity, and aggravated assault.

The investigation is ongoing, and no other information is available at this time.

Hattiesburg Police Chief Anthony Parker thanked everyone involved in the arrests.

“I can only hope the arrest and prosecution of these suspects helps the Nguyen family in some small way cope with this horrible tragedy,” he said. “As I said before, we will not tolerate this kind of senseless violence and disregard for human life in the Hub City.

“I want every criminal element who thinks they can come into the city of Hattiesburg and commit these types of crimes to know, we will not rest until we track you down, and bring you to justice.”

Authorities, at this time, are not saying who the trigger-man/men might be or how much money was taken, or as to the reasons for the senseless killing.
