Very seldom does the positive things that law enforcement officers do make the news these days.  Jones County Sheriff Joe Berlin wants to change that. When one of his officers does a good job, he wants to recognize their efforts and let people know.

“Sometimes our officers don’t get recognized for all they do out here,” said Berlin. “All they get is the criticism from the public.”

On Wednesday, January 21, an urgent request was made by first responders for help with an unresponsive male patient. Corp. Patrick Oster responded and upon arrival, and without hesitation, jumped in to help EmServ Ambulance Service, Glade Fire & Rescue, Hebron Fire & Rescue, and Powers Fire & Rescue perform CPR on the unresponsive patient.

On Monday, January 27, Sheriff Joe Berlin presented Oster with a Certificate of Commendation for his valiant efforts.

Captain Scott Sims read the certificate, and a statement in the certificate says, “Your commitment to duty, willingness to act and dedication to serve the residents of Jones County, Mississippi, is hereby noted and greatly appreciated by all.”

“We’re here to help,” said Berlin. “He did a good job by performing CPR. Even though the patient didn’t make it, he did everything he could to help.”

Oster has been with the Jones County Sheriff’s Department since 2015. Before coming to Jones County, he worked with the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department for two years.
