Law enforcement authorities in at least three south Mississippi counties are trying this morning to piece together evidence about an apparent murder in Forrest County.
Major Jamie Tedford of the Jones County Sheriff’s Department said early Monday morning that the investigation into the death of a man found in Eastabuchie is ongoing.
The call about the discovery of the body near the Leaf River in Eastabuchie came in around 11:00 a.m. Sunday. The body was found close to the boat ramp in Eastabuchie Park. When Jones County Sheriff Office investigators arrived on the scene, they found a male victim that had been shot in the head at least one time. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner.
According to authorities, leads they have uncovered over the past hours indicate that the shooting occurred in Forrest County, and a vehicle possibly connected to the murder was discovered in Covington County. More suspects are being probed at this time.
Tedford noted that the Forrest County Sheriff’s Office is now taking the lead role in the investigation since the shooting took place in that county.
The name of the victim was not released this morning. More details will be forthcoming.
According to Maj. Jamie Tedford with the Jones County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a call about a body found near the bridge over the Leaf River on Church Street in Eastabuchie just before noon.
