Seven adults and a juvenile – including one adult who was shot – have been arrested in connection with the Jan. 15 escape of Covington County Jail inmate Alexander Knight, who was captured by sheriff’s deputies and U.S. Marshals on Thursday in Seminary.
Covington County Sheriff Darrell Perkins said the 32-year-old Knight was arrested at his father’s home on Galjour Lane about 2:45 p.m. while he was hiding under the kitchen sink. During the arrest, Knight’s girlfriend – who was not identified – was shot when she allegedly attacked a U.S. Marshal. She is recovering in the hospital, Perkins said. He added that charges are being considered in the incident.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is looking into the shooting.
Perkins said the adults arrested were Paul Harvey, Megan Harvey, Phillip Knight, Audra Hernandez, Sebastian Hernandez, Keyanye McGowan and Helen Akers.
Knight, 21-year-old Dillon Parr and 30-year-old Christopher Love escaped from the Covington County Jail on Jan. 15. Perkins said the trio tied bed sheets together to climb through the skylight at the jail.
Parr was being held without bond after being charged with manslaughter-heat of passion in the November 2018 shooting death of his neighbor, Christopher Hand. Hand was shot once in the upper shoulder and neck area on Nov. 13, according to reports.
Hand was rushed to the hospital but died about 4:18 p.m. that day. His body was sent to the State Crime Lab in Pearl for an autopsy.
Parr made his initial appearance before Justice Court Judge Bobby Wayne Mooney on Nov. 14, 2018.
Perkins said Knight is facing a charge of commercial burglary. Charges against Love were not immediately available.
