ELLISVILLE – After more than three decades of service, long-time Ellisville Fire Chief Ronnie McGilberry said he’s looking forward to retirement.
McGilberry, who has been in firefighting for 32 years, has served as a member of the Ellisville Fire Department for 23 years. He served the past 11 years as the city’s fire chief.
McGilberry said the people of Ellisville made his job enjoyable.
“I loved my job and what I did,” he said. “I got to meet a lot of people and work with the people of Ellisville.”
McGilberry, who started out in firefighting at Jones County Junior College, went to the Ellisville Fire Department after nine years in the field. He joined the Ellisville department 23 years ago and made it his career.
“I grew up here, and I loved the job and the city,” McGilberry said. “It was a joy to serve the people.”
While serving as chief of the Ellisville Fire Department, McGilberry also served as vice president of the Southeastern District of the Mississippi Fire Chiefs Association.
The longtime firefighter said he enjoyed his job and now he’s looking forward to the future.
McGilberry, who is a native of Ellisville, said he plans to continue living in Ellisville and enjoying retirement.
McGilberry’s resignation as fire chief became effective on July 22.
