Operating under two overtime grants provided by the Mississippi Office of Highway Safety for Occupant Protection and Impaired Driving, the Jones County Sheriff’s Department conducted saturation patrols and safety checkpoints during its February 15 - March 13 work period. The results of these enforcement efforts are as follows:

Impaired Driving:

DUI Arrests - Alcohol: 3

DUI Other - Drug Arrests: 4

DUI Assist To Other: 4

Child Endangerment DUI: 3

Occupant Protection:

Seatbelt - Failure to wear: 298

Child Restraint - Failure to utilize: 53

Other Traffic Offenses:

No Insurance: 174

Suspended Drivers License: 74

No Drivers License: 66

Written Warnings: 13

Reckless/Careless Driving: 6

Arrests:

Fugitives Apprehended: 16

Drug Arrests: 9

Felony Arrests: 3

The Jones County Sheriff’s Department utilized thirty-one (31) saturation patrol details and ten (10) safety checkpoint details during the period. The Special Traffic Enforcement Details (STEP) overtime costs are funded by the Mississippi Office of Highway Safety.

The JCSD is continually amazed at how many persons are not wearing seat belts and not securing children in child safety seats. In addition, the number of drivers with no insurance, suspended drivers license and/or no drivers license is very high, as indicated by the citation totals above.
