The Jones County Sheriff's Department has begun receiving new bulletproof vests to replace current bulletproof vests, which are five years old or older. In addition, deputies who did not have properly fitting bulletproof vests or a vest at all are receiving new bulletproof vests as well. The new bulletproof vests are being partially funded by a grant received by the JCSD through the Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP), which pays for 50 percent of the cost of the vests.

"We are committed to providing our deputies, investigators, narcotics agents and command staff with ballistic protection to help keep them safe from gunfire," notes Sheriff Joe Berlin.  "We have received nineteen bulletproof vests so far and they are being deployed to our staff this week." He adds, it's an investment that we make to help ensure our law enforcement professionals go home after a critical incident.  These days you just never know what the next incident response is going to bring in terms of danger to our staff! We want to be ready when that 'worst day' presents itself."
