Rodney Daryl Reed was arrested last Tuesday night for Possession of Heroin with Intent.

The Jones County Sheriff’s Department made multiple drug-related arrests this past week, charging one known heroin dealer with charges while making other arrests in separate incidents.

“Myself and Captain [Vince] Williams made a traffic stop near Laurel on a known heroin dealer. We arrested Rodney Daryl Reed last Tuesday night for Possession of Heroin with Intent,” said Investigator Jake Driskell. “He had approximately 30 dosage units of heroin, or what we suspected was heroin.”

Reed was out on felony bond for prior drug-related offenses according to Driskell. His bond has been revoked.

Just over a year ago, the Jones County Sheriff’s Department was called to Reed’s residence where a man had overdosed on heroin.

“We were able to get there to the residence to save his life,” said Driskell. “We ended up having to arrest the same man weeks later due to having heroin in his possession.”

On Wednesday evening, Driskell and Cpt. Williams made another arrest, this time due to a simple stop sign violation that resulted in a much larger charge.

“We made a stop for a stop sign violation off of Cook Avenue close to the interstate. We ended up arresting Isaiah Christopher Phillips and Shannon Palmer because they had around 15 grams of methamphetamine with them.”

Driskell said both were charged with Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent within 1500 feet of a Church and that their bonds were set at $50,000 each.

On Friday afternoon a Jones County Sheriff’s Deputy arrested Jerry Yates on Highway 84 and he was ultimately charged with Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent while in Possession of a Firearm.

Driskell said that the deputy noticed Yates was more nervous than what anyone should be at a normal traffic stop which raised his suspicions.

Driskell stated that Yates had prior dealings with dealing methamphetamine in the past.

The Jones County Sheriff’s Department got a search warrant for the car where they located 17.1 grams of methamphetamine along with a loaded handgun. Yates’ bond was also set at $50,000.
