Kennedy helped his team, the Heidelberg Oilers, trample Wingfield, 40-0, on the road.
“Right out of the gate he came out full speed with a lot of energy,” said Heidelberg head football coach Darius Dear. “That is what he has brought to our defense over the few years."
"He is a leader on defense, and he sets the tone early," added Dear. "He made plays from start to finish."
The senior outside linebacker and defensive end recorded 12 tackles, a sack, a blocked punt and scored a 56-yard defensive touchdown on a fumble recovery.
Dear says Kennedy has grown in his knowledge and awareness on the field by watching more film in the offseason.
“He has devoted more of his time to watching film,” Dear said. “I guess that comes from being older and more seasoned as a player. Watching film plays a major role in being successful, even at this level.”
Dear, Kennedy and the Oilers (1-0) hit the road again in Week 2 to take on Southeast Lauderdale. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
