Sales and Marketing Professionals to feature USM Athletics' Stephen Pugh at October meeting

HATTIESBURG (Oct. 1, 2018) – Sales and Marketing Professionals Pine Belt and the Pine Belt chapter of the Public Relations Association of Mississippi are joining together to host a networking and informational meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at the Trent Lott National Center on the campus of The University of Southern Mississippi. This month’s guest speaker is Southern Miss Athletics’ Stephen Pugh, who will be discussing best practices for reaching the younger generation in the television-centered world.

Joining the Southern Miss family in May 2017, Pugh is Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs. One of his responsibilities is filling the stadium with fans by encouraging them to be present rather than watching from home. Previously, he had a two-year stint at Tulsa as Assistant AD for Marketing where he developed marketing campaigns for football and men's basketball, including game day atmosphere and advertising strategy. He also oversaw marketing efforts for the NCAA Tennis Championships and NCAA Basketball Tournament First and Second Rounds.

From May 2013 until May 2015 Pugh served as Director of Marketing at James Madison University, where the men's basketball program led the conference in attendance and increased student turnout by 45 percent and the women's program exceeded their revenue goal by 45 percent and increased attendance by 35 percent under Pugh’s marketing leadership and strategy.

Before James Madison University, Pugh served as an Assistant Director of Marketing at Miami, Florida, from January 2011 until May 2013. He was also a Marketing Associate with JMU Athletics for six months before his Miami stint.
